CRISIS over here... I need your help!!

Okay, Okay well it isn't really a crisis but in my mind it kinda is.

So today I went into my classroom and got way more done than I had planned on. Not sure if I mentioned it but I have moved so I am starting my classroom from scratch. See picture.

Complete scratch. However, today I somehow seemed to get all of my furniture in place, paint all of my bulletin boards (love love loving the colors) and unpack all of my books and I'm talking thousands of books. I've got way too many people!

Now on to the CRISIS! There is this ugly chalk board next to my white board. I am planning to use it as my math board to show math groups and daily 5 math choices. I love that it is magnetic but hate the poopy brown color.

Today, I painted a section in the corner just to see what will happen. I think I am going to paint the whole board tomorrow. Has anyone else out the there painted a chalk board before. Does it hold up okay? How does the paint do?

The watermelon is a magnet over the top of where I painted

See, told ya, poopy

Annnnnnd a FAB-ulous find! I was at wal mart yesterday, as I mentioned. While shopping around I cam across this microphone zipper pouch. Though it was so ridiculous and impractical to use as a supply pouch I thought it would be perfect for presentations and maybe even morning meeting to symbolize the person who should be talking. It was only $3.48.

  1. We cover our ugly chalk boards with contact paper! It's pretty easy, especially if it's a smaller surface and it looks nice for a long time!

  2. Oh my Gosh - I had the SAME poopy brown board in one of my old classrooms. I feel your pain, and just wish I had come up with the idea of painting it. I would think the paint would hold up well...unless it's really slick, and I might run some sandpaper over it to give it some more traction (??) for the paint. Good luck & can't wait to see your transformation. :)

  3. Kelly, and Sam thank you for your feedback. Oh my goodness I am definitely doing the contact paper! I actually just went and bought some today to cover up the color or my table. It is red and of course doesn't go with anything else. I will contact paper it tomorrow and post pictures too! Thank you, again you girls rock!!

  4. Great idea to paint the chalkboard! I read on Pinterest (of course) that there is something you can mix into paint that will make anything chalkboard paint. Good luck! I'm a new follower. Always glad to find another 3rd grade teacher!

  6. You have such a roomy room!! I think painting the board would be fine. I work in an old building and we paint over everything!! :).
I've seen those mics at Walmart too...good idea for using them. I may have to go pick one up!
