Friday Fall FREEBIE! Every Friday in October... it's a Blog Hop!

Fall is in full effect around here! I drove past the post office yesterday and suddenly realized the leaves are turning red and orange and the rain has given the air that fresh smell of autumn... I love it!

Every Friday in the month of October make sure to come by and snag
all sorts of freebies from me and some of my bloggy friends!

Here is your freebie for this Friday! I just implemented this in my classroom this year and I hear that it is going perfectly. The freebie is a much cuter version than the one pictured. I am going to put up a new one in my room. It was one of those times where I created it, printed, laminated and didn't love it but with a new baby at home I was not about to redo it.

All you need to do is print, glue onto a poster board and laminate. My students answer a check in question in the morning and exit slips throughout the day. They use a sticky note for their answer and post it over their number. I also included the blank template so that you can place a sticky label over or write student's names in the space instead of the numbers, if you prefer. It makes attendance so easy! Plus, they clean up and answer the exit slip question before recess faster than ever :P

Click HERE to get your's and make sure to scroll down and visit the next stop on the blog hop!

Happy Friday, Friends!

Make sure to visit All Things Apple in 2nd for your next stop on the blog hop and grab your next freebie!

B2S Prepping '13 New Mommy Style

Having two little ones at home is a whole new world for me. I am so used to be able to do it ALL and that just does not happen these days. At first I would make these extensive to do lists that I hoped to complete each day. That lasted about hmmmm... 1 day until I was crying over all the things I was "supposed" to do and didn't. That was early on so don't worry I am not a sobbing mess anymore. I have a new outlook and it makes a lot more sense.

I get done what I get done and if I get nothing done that's that.

It's sort of an "It is what it is" mentality and right now it just works. I am too Type A (all the way) to just do nothing this time of year when kids will be filling my room in just a short couple of weeks whether I will be the one there to greet them or not.

My back to school prepping has been a little more here and there than usual. I leave crossing a few things off my list on a good day and sometimes I cross nothing off. Things are still falling into place though and I am so lucky to have such an amazing teacher in my place while I am away.

Here is some of what I worked on today. Averie had her 2 month check up and that tired her out. After a full belly she slept the whole time. Conner made messes and entertained me. I loved taking them with me. I didn't miss out on a second with them!

This is our focus wall. The writing poster is a place holder for now. When I make it to the store it will be replaced with a giant piece of notebook paper to add daily homework. -- More on that part later (see bits and pieces).

Here is a close up of the I can... portion.

This little guy will tell us the pages we should begin with each day so that I don't have to repeat my self 150,000 times. :)

Is my theme for this year obvious yet? Love these elephants!

Math board. There will be more on this later, as well. In short it will show Math rotations for small groups and below the kids will add the vocabulary we are currently using.

This will be the math word wall. The vocabulary words will rotate over here as we add current ones. The titles/headings are straight from common core.

Got these clocks at Ikea and they are perfect to show off important transitions in our day.

Well there is the quick run down. I promise to be back to tell you more about the Math Vocab. and the Focus wall soon and give ya some freebies.

Newbie up in here! Linky Party and a FREEBIE

Thank you,

For throwing the Newbie Bloggers Blog Hop! I am excited to share about myself, but it has also been so much fun reading about everyone else and being introduced this this all.

I live in the absolutely beautiful state of Oregon! I always think I might want to live somewhere more sunny like California or Arizona but truly, we have it all here.
Teaching has been absolutely insane for me. I will be teaching 3rd Grade this year but, I have taught 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 1st and now I am happy to be back to 3rd. Mmmm hmmm can you say roller coaster ride? Every year is a great one and I certainly feel blessed!

I have worked with the same district for 6 years. I started as an assistant in a special education classroom (best experience). Then I was a "skills trainer" helping students with special needs be successful in a general education classroom. After that I did my student teaching (prego as ever, I might add). This was when all of the first round of BIG cuts happened. There was no position for me upon finishing but I applied everywhere. At the very end of the summer a 1/2 time 5th grade position opened up! I got the job and it was perfect. The following spring I interviewed for a full time 3rd grade position and the rest is history!

Well, when did I start blogging or when did I start stocking all of your blogs? Just kidding but really I started blogging in July of 2012, officially.

Well it might sound like a ridiculously silly tip but it was something that I had to learn. Create your blogs with the "compose" tab, instead of the "Edit HTML" tab. It is much easier ;)

And now... drumroll please... onto the freebie. Well this was A LOT, and I mean A LOT of work. We use Rigby's Literacy by Design in our district. It is a perfect fit to Daily 5 and integrated well with Social Studies and Science. There is a huge vocabulary piece to it but there are no pictures for the kids to make connections to the real world. This FREEBIE is gigantic. There are 160 vocabulary cards with word, definition, and picture. I use the cards to introduce new vocabulary words and to play review games. For example, you could pass out the cards you are working on and have students find their matches. The word will have to find the definition and they will have to find the person with their matching picture. You could also use these as a center game. Hmmm, maybe I will have to create a little recording sheet soon. Anywho magoos I hope you all enjoy these!! Let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions. Click each picture for each file. Remember I said they are big so there are 3 different sets.

Off to a Good Start

I always like to complete an individual math interview with each student just to see what sort of mathematician they really are. I usually have 3 students at my table at a time. This seems to be just the right amount so that I can can pay attention and make notes for each child. It is so valuable and tells me more than any group assessment could. I lay out base ten pieces, scratch paper and counting blocks for students. Without giving any guidance I let them choose what they would liked to use and make notes as they go about how they are solving problems. This particular assessment is designed for Fall of 3rd Grade. These are based on the Common Core Standards and what students should have mastered by the end of 2nd Grade. I hope that this resource is helpful to you.

NOTE: The preview shows just the first page. There are 3 pages total covering skip counting, time, addition and subtraction and problem solving.

Common Core Freebie!

It can be dang tough to stay positive about all of the changes we face each year! In fact, it is difficult to think of anything that has been consistent the last few years. With changes in staff, schools, grades ad curriculum its a wonder how we keep it all straight! We are of course, not strangers to changing standards. This is why I have included my common core standards in student friendly "I can" terms to be posted in your classroom and... it is a FREEBIE!

Let me know what you think and enjoy! These are owl themed but if you would like me to add a cutesy pie character that matches your classroom just let me know and I would be happy to change it for ya!

Just click on the first picture to get yours!
